When Should I get Insurance?

Pets should be insured right when they are adopted or when they are kittens or puppies. This is important because some insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions. For example, if you brought in your dog for excessive itching and we found out that Fido had allergies, the insurance company would not cover any allergy treatment for the rest of Fido's pet's life.

Why should I get insurance?

Insurance allows you to be able to treat your pet without having to worry about the monetary costs that can be quite high.  For example, if your cat escapes outside and ends up with a puncture wound that turns into an abscess, your insurance would cover the treatment.

What should I look for in an insurance company?

First, look for a company that has been around for awhile. Many companies pop up and only last for a couple of years.  Next, research them online and the programs they offer. Call in and talk to a representative to figure out what plan would be a good fit for your family.  Make sure you ask if the company has any breed disqualifications.  Also, ask how long it takes to get reimbursed.  How difficult is the process for filing a claim?  Are they an easy company to get in touch with?
