What kinds of surgery are offered at Center Veterinary Clinic?

We offer a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. These include spays, neuter and declaws as well as advanced orthopedic procedures done by board certified surgeons. We also perform C-sections, tumor removals, laceration repairs, GI foreign body removals, gall bladder removals and bladder stone removals, to name a few.

How long does a pet stay in the hospital after surgery?

Most routine procedures go home the same day. More advanced procedures can require overnight hospitalization.

Is anesthesia safe?

Many precautions are taken to keep the anesthetic episode as safe as possible, starting with pre-op lab tests. Any non-routine procedure requires that the patient be on IV fluids. A warm air blanket is maintained on the surgery tables to prevent hypothermia. Pulse oximeters are used to monitor the patient’s heart rate and oxygen saturation. The anesthetics used are tailored to fit the specific patient’s needs.

What kind of pain medication is used?

The days of pain being a good thing are long gone. It has been recognized that pain can delay healing after the surgery. As such, pain relief is a priority at Center Veterinary Clinic. All surgeries will receive a pre-op injection of an analgesic and oral medication will be sent home. Judicious use of narcotics, either by injection or IV drip, is used for post-op control. Nerve Blocks are also performed for better pain management in our patients.

What kind of aftercare is needed?

At the time of surgery check out, the veterinary technician will go over all post operative instructions including pain management, feeding and suture care. Most procedures have sutures or staples that will need to be removed in 10-14 days. This is included in the cost of your surgery. Some orthopedic procedures may require physical therapy. The length of exercise restriction varies from 10-14 days for electives, to several months for orthopedics.
